Placement Experience

Last year, Williams Gallagher was delighted to be able to offer a sandwich year placement position to a third year university student wishing to gain experience in the town planning field.

Before he headed off to complete his final year, we asked Elliott Williams (pictured) to give an overview of his experience:

“My Property Development and Planning BSc (Hons) sandwich degree provided me with the chance to complete a year in industry. After approaching Williams Gallagher, they offered me the opportunity to complete my placement year with them. This made me their first placement student, thus being a new venture for us both. Nonetheless, in early August 2021, I started my first week at the company.

Admittedly, at the time of starting my placement year, university teachings to the end of my second year, had only offered a slight glimpse into what planning entailed. Thankfully, I joined a great team with a great depth of experience. With everyone being so supportive, I began to develop the fundamental understanding on how to approach different planning matters, initially at a more ‘basic level.’ Throughout my year, I was exposed to an array of different sectors within planning, ranging from residential developments to retail and large mixed-use schemes. All of which was of aid to developing an as comprehensive as possible skillset to become a planner”.

Elliott continues to work with Williams Gallagher on a part time basis.
